Your strengths lie with in designing concepts, embedded software and requirement management. You take care of computer systems software component design and have strong affinity with computer systems and hardware equipment. Gathering and translation of system requirements into strong, long-term proofs of design and concept proposals.

Job Description
With in the Infra structure and Machine control department, you will work in the computer systems group. This group is responsible for computer system software on the client’s Scanner products. This also includes the operating systems which are used on various computer nodes.
We are looking for an embedded system engineer with in depth Linux OS knowledge. As part of our team you will be responsible for OS system selection, configuration test & integration on existing and new computer nodes.

You will co-operate with various stakeholders from both the electronics department and software department gathering all necessary requirements to be able to select the right operating system. You will have to oversee the system level impact of introducing new operating systems or upgrades on device drivers, 3rd party libraries, development tools etc. and take these consequences in to account in your design proposals. In your design proposal various items should be taken in to consideration, such as commonality, flexibility and making trade offs between using existing functionalities with new (make) & off-the-shelf (buy) solutions.

Your tasks & responsibilities consist of the following:
• Managing requirements: documenting & collecting the demands to be made on software
• Analyze existing solutions
• Make design proposals, consider buy or make solutions
• Translate proposals in to proofs of concept activities
• Implementation, integration and testing of proposed solutions

Education and qualifications
• BSc or MSc degree of computer science or other relevant studies.

Desired experience
Profile description: the person we are looking for combines high analytical and conceptual skills to a hands-on mind set. He or she has started his career as an embedded software engineer / designer, working on Linux device driver development or Linux BSP development. He or she has experience with implementing Linux operating systems in OEM products.

Must have experience
• At least 7 years experience in development of embedded systems.
• C Language
• Python & shell scripting
• Embedded Linux
• Linux device drivers, network configuration and file systems
• SCM Tooling: either Clearcase, SVN or GIT
• Analysis of software issues and design of solutions

Nice to have experience:
• Perl, C++, Vx Works, Power PC, WindRiver
• Network knowledge: DNS, TCP/IP, BOOTP, WireShark
• Real time embedded development
• RPM, JTAG/ICE, bootloaders

Context of the position
Within the enterprise, the sector “Development and Engineering“ (D&E) is responsible for the specification, design and engineering of client’s products. With in D&E, the software (SW) cluster is responsible for design, development, integration and testing of the complete software package, which drives a generation of our client’s products. In the SW Cluster, the department “Machine Control and Infrastructure“ is responsible for the architecture of the platform software landscape.

Salary indication for this job: € 3750,- to € 4250,- per month
